A rough clean removes debris and heavy dust while the trades are still working; a final clean is the heavy, detailed clean of every agreed surface once the dust-making work is done; a touch-up clean is the short last pass for new dust and marks right before the walkthrough, closing or move-in. Greater Phoenix Cleaning quotes each phase as its own line for general contractors, custom home builders and remodel owners in Phoenix and Scottsdale, from Biltmore (85016) and Arcadia (85018) to Old Town (85251) and North Scottsdale (85255), after a walkthrough in person or by photos and video.
Window washing and floor care are add-ons that come after the touch-up clean, with floor care last.

| Rough clean | Final clean | Touch-up clean | |
|---|---|---|---|
| When | While the trades are still working, after a dust-making stage such as drywall and before finishes go in | After the dust-making work is done and the contractor releases the space | After returning trades and punch-list work, right before the owner walkthrough, closing or move-in |
| Scope | Loose debris and packaging gathered, floors swept, reachable surfaces dusted so finish work can continue | The heavy, detailed clean: fine dust removed from high surfaces down; cabinets, drawers, closets, fixtures, glass and tracks detailed; labels and light residue removed where the finish allows; floors detailed room by room; HEPA vacuuming and every room photographed | New dust, fingerprints and marks from work done after the final clean |
| Not included | Debris hauling or a move-in-ready clean | Paint correction, repairs or finish restoration | A repeat of the full final clean |

Phase 1: The Rough Clean
A rough clean resets a working site to a usable baseline. It happens between stages, most often after drywall, so dust does not get sealed into paint, trim and cabinetry as finishes go in. On long builds it can repeat. It is not debris hauling: dumpsters, heavy scrap and leftover materials stay with the contractor, and the bid states exactly which loose debris we gather.
Phase 2: The Final Clean
The final clean is the heaviest and most detailed phase. It runs from the highest surfaces down so falling dust never lands on finished work: light fixtures, vents and ledges, then cabinets inside and out, drawers, closets, fixtures, glass and window tracks, then floors room by room. HEPA vacuuming is standard and every room is photographed. Labels and light trade residue come off where the finish allows; anything that needs a trade, such as paint correction or a scratched surface, goes back on the punch list.
Phase 3: The Touch-Up Clean
Trades often come back after the final clean: an electrician trims out a fixture, a painter touches up a wall, a cabinet door gets adjusted. The touch-up clean catches the dust and fingerprints those visits leave, right before the owner, buyer or inspector walks the space. It is quoted separately once you tell us what changed, so you are not paying for a second full final clean.
Where Window Washing and Floor Care Fit
- Touch-up clean removes the last dust and marks.
- Window washing (add-on) covers interior and exterior windows, done by our window specialists after the touch-up.
- Floor care (add-on) comes last, after the windows, so no one walks finished floors again.
Which Phases Does Your Project Need?
Scroll sideways for all columns.
| Project | Phases to plan | Why |
|---|---|---|
| New custom home | Rough, final and touch-up, then window washing and floor care | Multiple trades over months, a certificate of occupancy (CO) date and an owner walkthrough |
| Whole-home remodel, vacant | Rough and final, touch-up if trades return | Drywall and flooring dust travel through the whole house |
| Kitchen or bathroom remodel, family living at home | Final, plus a touch-up after the last trade visit | The family is living around the work, so the dust stays in a smaller area |
| Commercial build-out or tenant improvement | Final and touch-up, rough clean between stages on longer jobs | The handoff to the tenant or inspector sets the deadline |
| Space already cleaned, minor rework | Touch-up only | Only the new dust and marks need attention |
Phoenix Scheduling: CO Dates, Monsoon Dust and Long Builds
- Work back from the CO or handoff date. Construction cleaning guides commonly set the final clean three to five days before occupancy (RBM Building Services) and the touch-up the day before the walkthrough (Neat N Clean Co.). Put both dates in the bid request.
- Monsoon season re-dusts finished sites. The National Weather Service defines Arizona’s monsoon as June 15 to September 30, and dust storms can coat a finished interior through open doors and unsealed openings. On a summer handoff, keep doors closed after the final clean and plan a touch-up after any storm.
- Desert dust settles on every ledge. Fine dust keeps settling after sanding and cutting stop. Leaving a gap between the last dust-making work and the final clean means less dust lands on cleaned surfaces.

Construction Cleaning Phase Questions
What Is a Rough Clean in Construction?
A rough clean removes loose debris and heavy dust while the trades are still working, usually after drywall and before finishes go in. Floors are swept and reachable surfaces dusted so finish work can continue. It is not debris hauling or a move-in-ready clean.
What Is the Difference Between a Final Clean and a Touch-Up Clean?
The final clean is the heavy, detailed clean of every agreed surface after the dust-making work is done. The touch-up clean is a short pass for new dust and marks left by trades who return after the final clean, right before the walkthrough or handoff.
Do I Need All Three Phases?
Not always. New builds and large remodels usually need all three. A kitchen or bath remodel in a lived-in home often needs a final clean and a touch-up. A space already cleaned with minor rework may need only a touch-up.
When Should the Final Clean Be Scheduled?
After the dust-making work is done and the contractor releases the space, with enough time before the CO or handoff date for a touch-up. Guides commonly set it three to five days before occupancy.
Are Window Washing and Floor Care Included?
They are add-ons, quoted separately. Window washing comes after the touch-up clean, and floor care comes last, after the windows.
How Is Post-Construction Cleaning Quoted?
Every post-construction project gets a custom proposal scoped by phase, after a walkthrough in person or a virtual quote from photos, video and plans. The proposal arrives within 24 to 48 hours after an on-site walkthrough is complete.
Do You Haul Construction Debris?
No. Debris hauling, dumpsters, hazardous materials and heavy scrap stay with the contractor. The rough clean gathers loose debris and packaging as the bid states.
What If a Dust Storm Hits After the Final Clean?
Arizona’s monsoon runs June 15 to September 30, and storm dust can settle through open doors. Tell us what changed and we quote a touch-up clean for the affected rooms before the walkthrough.
